It’s honestly impossible to remember all your passwords. There are just too many of them!
Here’s where password managers and the likes of them enter the pictures. If you’re an Android user, you’re probably familiar with Samsung Pass.
If not - you’ve come to the right place!
We’ll discuss what Samsung Pass is, its pros and cons, and the alternatives.
Ready?
Samsung Pass is a free password management tool that comes built into the latest Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
The software saves sign-in information such as usernames and passwords and fills them in automatically through biometric scanning. This process is initiated every time an app asks for your login info to sign in to your accounts. It can also save info like credit card details and addresses.
All the saved data, however, is only stored in your device - you won’t be able to sync it with others.
All the latest Galaxy smartphones are equipped with biometric authentication features - Samsung Pass supports face recognition and fingerprint sensor. It also has a built-in secure login feature.
First, you need to enable it, which is quite simple.
Go to Settings and then tap on Biometrics and Security. Enter the password for your Samsung account and follow the instructions. It will take less than five minutes.
The next time you open an app or log in to a website, the password manager will prompt you to save the data. Put your fingertip on the scanner or use the face recognition feature and voila - you’re done. Samsung Pass will provide the saved passwords.
However, you should keep in mind that it might not work for all apps. Some don’t permit the use of biometrics.
You can manage the saved data by going to Biometrics and Security, tapping on Samsung Pass and choosing Autofill or Sign In forms.
If you want to delete your passwords, go to Settings, then Samsung Pass again. Tap on the app or website that you wish to remove from the list and choose Delete Data.
Sounds easy enough, right?
But do you really need it?
Well, there are several factors you have to consider:
The software for sure has a lot of advantages, but there are a few let-downs, too. Let’s take a look:
Note: Samsung Pass comes as a default password manager on Galaxy phones running Android 8.0 and up.
If the disadvantages are too huge for you to ignore, here are some great password managers to consider:
You need to get really creative with your passwords, we all know that. But that will make them really hard to remember.
There’s an easy solution to that.
Samsung Pass is a password manager with a slightly different approach than the traditional options. It saves your biometric data, which you can later use to access your login details.
Is it the best one on the market, though?
That depends on the device you’re using. If you have a Samsung Galaxy, then it’s okay. But if you have literally any other phone, best choose an alternative.
It’s free, easy to use, and pretty secure, which is neat. But you can also use it on one device only - no browsers. Also, it won’t generate passwords, which means it’s up to you to create strong ones. If they get compromised - well, you’ll have to use another tool to find out.
As you’ve probably guessed, you also can’t export data from Samsung Pass.
So, to sum up - if you’re not the most tech-savvy person in the world or if you’re just entering the password manager scene, it’s an okay tool. I, however, advise you to look into other options. Most also have free versions - which is Samsung Pass’ greatest advantage - so you literally have nothing to lose.
Most definitely. The software encrypts your biometric data and saves it in a secured vault.
No. The Samsung Pass app is free for owners of Galaxy phones. It’s pre-installed on the devices.
Samsung Pass supports fingerprint, iris, and face recognition.
Yes, but I don’t recommend it. However, if you insist, follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Samsung pass. From there, you can either turn off the app or delete it.
