AOMEI Backupper Review
Updated · Jan 03, 2024
Best for: Windows users who want easy file backup, clone, or restoration
Developed in China, the AOMEI backup software makes its first impression with the unusual name. It is designed well and offers fast speeds when backing up files on a local drive. After we tested it, we deemed it worthy of our list of the best data backup programs.
AOMEI Backupper is good for everyone. Its simplicity makes it a pretty straightforward tool, so you don’t need to be particularly tech-savvy to use it.
The main dashboard gives you five main tabs to play around with, including Home, Backup, Restore, Clone, and Utilities. None is complex to use and you’ll learn the ropes soon enough.
Let’s see what else is there:
AOMEI Backupper Features
Time to review all the goodies AOMEI Backupper has in store!
We’ve separated the features into 4 main directories to discuss:
- File backup
- Restoring files
- Cloning files
- Utilities
File Backup
There are twelve ways to backup files through AOMEI data Backupper, including:
- System backup
- Disk backup
- Partition backup
- File backup and sync
- Scheduled (automatic) backup
- Event-triggered backup
- Command-line backup
- Backup to NAS/Network
- Incremental/differential backup
- Backup to Dynamic Disk Volume
- Backup GPT Disk Partition
The first four are the most commonly used.
Creating a system backup is good for preventing your system from failure, involving all of the system, boot files, program files. Similarly, a disk backup can prevent you from losing any disk data when encountering a hard drive failure.
File backup and syncing is a great way to protect your computer. This is exactly why we decided to review AOMEI Backupper and its partition backups.
If you’re interested in that, you should know that they only cover some of the disks on your computer (for example, the partition on C: disk). There are different types of data in each partition.
The AOMEI Backupper Standard is probably the best option for most of these file backup solutions. You will get automatic file backup and different options (from hard drives, external hard drives, USB flash drives, network drives, etc.).
Restoring Files
The AOMEI Backupper free software can also help you with:
- System Restore
- Disk Restore
- Dissimilar Hardware Restore
- Partition Restore
- File Restore
- Restore System from Bootable Disc
- Restore from Command Prompt
- Selective Files Restore
- Restore with Partition Alignment
- UEFI/EFI Restore
It lets you control which files you want to recover, especially if your computer has suffered unexpected changes and/or problems. These include:
- Malware
- Ransomware
- Hacker attacks
- Blue screens
- OS issues
- System crashes
- Hardware failures
- Damages caused by natural disasters
And more. Again, the System Restore and Disk Restore options are probably the most commonly used, even though there is also a Partition Restore and a File Restore.
Overall, AOMEI Backupper is a great way to get instant system and disk recovery with backup. The software works with all Windows OS from Windows 2000 above. It precisely locates the image files before you know what happened.
Cloning Files
With the AOMEI Backupper, you can clone files on a disk, on another operating system, with a command line, as a partition or a specific volume, or with partition alignment. However, there is no online hard drive.
You would need the AOMEI disk clone feature if you are transferring to another operating system, hard drive, or want to transfer your data.
Cloning files lets you create a duplicate disk, and you can do a full backup of the source disk by cloning its hard drive. Users who want to solve issues with lost data can also opt for data recovery.
Utilities
When researching for our AOMEI Backupper review, we were quite impressed by the:
- Image Deployment
- Merge Image Files
- Check Image File
- Explore Image File
- Compress Backup
- Encrypt Backup
- Create Bootable Media
- PXE Boot Tool
- Split Image File
- Comment Backup
- Export/Import Task
With both paid and free AOMEI Backupper licenses, you can deploy system images to multiple computers over the same network. This feature focuses on customizing your operating system (OS) and its applications, drivers, and settings on a single computer and creating an exact image of it. Then, you can initiate the AMOEI Backupper restore image process, and deploy it to other devices.
Often mixed with cloning, image deployment is important because it enables users to efficiently and rapidly set up multiple computers that are configured the same way.
That way, you can save time and effort. The option is very much appreciated by the system and network administrators.
Besides merging, exploring, and deploying system images, you can also use the AOMEI Backupper safe software to compress and encrypt backups, create bootable media, or split the image file. You can also export and import tasks.
AOMEI Backupper Performance
As we said at the beginning of our AOMEI Backupper review, this program was designed in a simple way.
For our tests, we used the AOMEI Backupper Windows 10 version.
We used the same data on each PC, running different backup and restoration sets. The results showed no overload of our CPU and the files were compressed quickly. It all happened in just a few clicks.
The backup speeds are solid, but not the best. When backing up 1TB of data, the app took less than 18 hours to fully complete the process. In comparison to some of the best software programs out there, this is two to three times longer.
The restoration speeds were faster. The rate was around 1.87GB per minute, which puts AOMEI data Backupper among the top software programs in this scenario. 1TB of files was restored in less than 9 hours.
Data compression is the next thing we tested. It’s the real highlight of this part of our AOMEI Backupper review. The software compressed data by less than 10% on average, and sometimes at around 12%, which is very close to the industry standard. In some cases, it is even above it.
When we tried backing up sets of files, we encountered some minor glitches. Still, the CPU usage was light, and the speed was bearable.
AOMEI Backupper should also work on the encryption options. For instance, you can choose to encrypt backup sets, but that is really the only course of action.
Interface and Ease of Use
AOMEI Backupper reviews are predominantly positive when it comes to the ease of use. The software is extremely intuitive.
As we originally mentioned, there are five main tabs, and most of the operations are centered around the backup and restore processes. The chances for user error is taken down to a minimum.
The five main options are listed with large icons positioned on the left-hand side of the app window, making it easy for everyone to navigate.
While using the platform, we encountered only one issue, associated with files that have long names. AOMEI Backupper Pro failed to initiate a backup until we shortened them. But that’s all.
If you still feel unsure, you can always talk to the support team.
Customer Support
The AOMEI software offers support for every user. However, since the HQ is in China, there might be some misunderstandings, if you’re from a foreign country.
You can make use of the:
- Forums
- FAQ page (Purchase FAQs, Technical FAQs, and Product Upgrade questions)
- Official documentation (you can use it offline, here is the link)
- Social media channels (Facebook and Twitter)
- Email support – separate addresses for technical support, sales, complaints, and partnerships
There are no phone numbers or any live chat options, but the company is active on its social media channels. You can also use email.
If you want to report a problem within the app instead of email, there is a window for that where you need to type in your inquiry and confirm everything by entering your account’s password.
Security
AOMEI does not offer its own cloud backup option. That means that your security level depends on your cloud service of choice.
However, we didn’t encounter any complaints in other reviews. The software is very safe to use. The only thing you should be keeping an eye on most of the time is if you are making any permanent changes to your computer. Other than that, the software is pretty simple and straightforward to use.
AOMEI Backupper Pricing
AOMEI’s Backupper comes in several plans based on Windows PCs and Windows PCs and Servers.
Here’s what you can expect:
$49.95
Comes with lifetime upgrades, all features, business use, and a PXE boot tool (1PC/license).
If you are interested in servers, you can choose from:
$199 per license (on a discount from $269)
Comes with lifetime upgrades, all features, business use and a PXE boot tool.
Perhaps the most reasonable option, if you have a network of computers where you want to be able to backup files and do restoration, is the AOMEI Backupper Technician. Despite the $499 price tag, it comes with many options, unlimited PCs and licenses, and a lifetime plan.
Individual users can benefit from the Professional and Workstation plans, both of which are relatively close in their price tag (with a $10 difference).
For server users, there are two packages. The first is the AOMEI Backupper Server charges you per license, while the second - AOMEI Backupper Technician Plus puts one cost for an unlimited number of PCs and licenses.
AOMEI Backupper Review - Verdict
At the end of the day, the AOMEI Backupper software is a good choice for beginners and novice users who want simple software to backup files locally.
There are some issues that the developers should overcome for an even better rating (as you could see in our Performance tests). However, the software is still performing well on most fronts and is close to the average in most of the categories.
Our tests for this AOMEI Backupper Standard review showed that even the basic option of it is enough for Windows users to fulfill most of their needs. So why not give it a try? It might just pleasantly surprise you!
